The Burgettstown Blue Devils will face off against the Freedom Area Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burgettstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Burgettstown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Cornell with a sharp 19-3 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Brooklyn Robinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Sherman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Madison Guiddy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Burgettstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornell only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Freedom Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Riverside, falling 18-3.
Freedom Area saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haydan Baucan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Burgettstown now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Freedom Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Freedom Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Burgettstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. It's a different story for Freedom Area, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Burgettstown's hitters?
Everything went Burgettstown's way against Freedom Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Burgettstown made off with a 15-0 win. Does Burgettstown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Freedom Area turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
