Washburn piles up the points against Cherokee

Recap: Washburn Pirates vs. Cherokee Chiefs

The Washburn Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season. They breezed by Cherokee at home to the tune of 55-11. With that victory, Washburn brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.

Leading Washburn to victory were Ebany Hill and Saylor Clay. Hill scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Clay scored 22 points along with five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Clay has scored at least 25% of Washburn's points. Another player making a difference was Taylie Proffitt, who scored eight points.

The win makes it two in a row for Washburn and bumps their season record up to 9-4. As for Cherokee, they bumped their record down to 2-11 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Washburn will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Unaka at 6:30 p.m. Unaka has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 25. As for Cherokee, they will head out on the road to face off against Greeneville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeneville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cherokee in Tennessee (Greeneville is ranked 122nd, while Cherokee is ranked 376th).
