Baseball Recap: Monterey Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Monterey faced off against Pickett County on Monday. Monterey fell just short of Pickett County by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

Dawson Hedgecough spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Monterey saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Whitehead, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Monterey's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pickett County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

While Monterey had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
