Baseball Game Preview: Rochester Rams vs. Winchester Thurston

The Rochester Rams will square off against Winchester Thurston at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Rochester lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Union Area, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Rams put the hurt on the Scotties with a sharp 16-1 win on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Winchester Thurston came tearing into Monday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with a 21-4 win. Considering Winchester Thurston has won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaelin Leimer and Sam Tarr made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Leimer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Tarr pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Leimer scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Tarr scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Winchester Thurston got a massive performance out of Lucas Picher, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Staresinic, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Winchester Thurston pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Rochester, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-3.
