Softball Recap: Hesperia Drops Highest Score of Season Against Shelby

Hesperia extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They came up short against the Shelby Tigers, falling 17-7. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Panthers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

As for Shelby, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Shelby's part, Jayna Burmeister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Burmeister was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.

In other batting news, Jordan Wolting was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Izzy Rudat was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Coming up, Hesperia will be playing in front of their home fans against Mason County Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shelby, they will head out on the road to challenge Hart at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
