Football Recap: San Pedro Takes a Loss

San Pedro had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it four. They fell 49-45 to the Laguna Beach Breakers. Despite 101 more yards than the Breakers, the Pirates couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why San Pedro lost, don't look at Seth Solorio. Despite the final result, he threw for 427 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in two rushing scores. Solorio's passing game has become a key predictor of the Pirates' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise.

As for Laguna Beach, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 40.0 points this season.

Laguna Beach got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Hurst out in front who threw for 291 yards and four TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Hurst is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Brady Stringham was in the mix as well, providing Laguna Beach with three touchdowns.

San Pedro didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 48-12 victory against Narbonne on the 3rd. As for Laguna Beach, they have also already played their next contest, a 42-0 win against Northwood on the 3rd.
