Basketball Recap: Vanlue Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Adrienne Phillips and Olivia Secord

Vanlue lost against Elmwood back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Vanlue Wildcats fell 50-40 to the Elmwood Royals.

Olivia Secord and Adrienne Phillips certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Secord posted 12 points along with six assists and six blocks, while Phillips had 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Secord has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 33 times she's played. Candace Saltzman was another key player, putting up seven points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Vanlue smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Vanlue has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Elmwood, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanlue will head out to take on Ridgemont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Elmwood, they will head out on the road to square off against Otsego at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Elmwood is facing Otsego at the right time seeing as Otsego is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
