Softball Recap: Wilton Find Success

Wilton's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the New Fairfield Rebels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since April 17, 2024.

Leianna Cross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. Cross was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Ruby Prior looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, Wilton got a big performance out of Annie McMahon, who went 2-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave McMahon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Samai, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

The victory got Wilton back to even at 1-1. As for New Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Wilton has already played their next match, a 7-2 win against Westhill on the 15th. As for New Fairfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-5 victory against Bethel on the 14th.
