Football Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Metuchen's Winning Streak

While it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Metuchen was not quite Governor Livingston's equal in the second half on Saturday. They took a 14-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Metuchen lost, don't look at Justus Leitner. Despite the final result, he picked up 148 receiving yards. Leitner has become a key player for the Bulldogs: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 100 receiving yards, but 3-4 otherwise.

Metuchen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gio Tan and Cameron Hayes-Durina.

Governor Livingston found their leader in sophomore Elijah Garcia, who rushed for 157 yards and one TD. Those 157 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Garcia. Julio Nieto was in the mix as well, providing Governor Livingston with one touchdown.

Metuchen moved to 5-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Governor Livingston, the win also got them back to even at 5-5.

As of now, neither Metuchen nor the Highlanders have any future games scheduled.
