Softball Recap: Trinity's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Trinity had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Newfound Regional Bears by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday.

Emily Makris made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Makris was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Catie Bishop was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Romano, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Trinity was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Trinity's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Newfound Regional, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity will face off against Bishop Brady at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for the Pioneers: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Giants have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Newfound Regional, they will take on Prospect Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Timberwolves will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
