Baseball Recap: Riverside Takes a Loss

Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 4-1 to the Burns Hilanders. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hilanders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Cougar Philippi was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Philippi was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Burns, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will face off against Weston-McEwen/Griswold at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Burns, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Vale at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
