Softball Recap: Mariposa County Finds Playoff Glory Versus Millennium

With a playoff win on the line, Mariposa County rose to the challenge on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Millennium Falcons as they made off with a 19-3 victory. Considering the Grizzlies have won 12 games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Hatcher was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Hatcher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Taylor Krull and Heely Patterson did most of the damage at the plate: Krull got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Patterson went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Krull has posted since back in March. Kallie Wass was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Mariposa County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Mariposa County is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Millennium, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Mariposa County will square off against Le Grand at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. Millennium does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
