Basketball Recap: Gambell Starts Season with Loss at Home

Gambell unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to the Hogarth Kingeekuk Sr. Memorial Huskies 70-66. The King Polar Bear were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Gambell lost on Friday, don't look at Damian Campbell-Newhall. Despite the final result, he posted 24 points. The matchup was Campbell-Newhall's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Campbell, who scored 18 points.

While Gambell had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
