Softball Recap: Langham Creek Takes Down Tomball Memorial in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Langham Creek walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Tomball Memorial Wildcats on Friday as they made off with a 9-3 win. The Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Karli Challburg was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izabella Amato-Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Mckenna Simmons was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

The victory (which was Langham Creek's 15th in a row) raised their record to 24-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Tomball Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 17-11-1.

Langham Creek will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
