Softball Recap: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Marion Bulldogs
It was a good run, but Nixon-Smiley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 14-10 to the Marion Bulldogs. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Kaelynn Mendiola made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Another player making a difference was Marysol Granados, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
On Marion's side, Cambry Dojahn made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. Dojahn was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Ricarte, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a double. Greenlee Trevino was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a run, and a double.
Nixon-Smiley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-15. As for Marion, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
