Dunedin and Clearwater are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Falcons will welcome the Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunedin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Dunedin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against East Lake on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2.
Lyla Griffey was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Clearwater made easy work of Largo on Tuesday and carried off a 14-1 win. The Tornadoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Madison Jost was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Juleah Patterson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Jadah Nicholls was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Clearwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Largo only posted an OBP of .333.
Clearwater has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Dunedin, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dunedin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Clearwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dunedin came out on top in a nail-biter against Clearwater in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornadoes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
