Recap: Mitchell Tigers vs. Chadron Cardinals
The Mitchell Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 13th straight defeat. They were beaten by Chadron 62-19. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mitchell in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: Addy Bowlin scored 12 points. That was a full 63.2% of Mitchell's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mitchell struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chadron pulled down 26 offensive rebounds.
Chadron got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taverra Sayaloune out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Sayaloune is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Demi Ferguson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Chadron, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Mitchell and the Tigers will face off at 10:00 a.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sterling is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Chadron, they and the Bulldogs will face off at 11:30 a.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
