Basketball Game Preview: Key West Conchs vs. Northwestern Bulls

The Key West Conchs will take on the Northwestern Bulls on Thursday. Key West has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 15.

Last Saturday, Key West was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-41 to NSU University. While losing is never fun, the Conchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while the Sharks are ranked 127th).

Meanwhile, Northwestern got the win against Goleman on Wednesday by a conclusive 47-23. The Bulls have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Key West better keep an eye on Myah Newton. She was instrumental in Northwestern's win, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Newton is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jahyra Charles, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points.

Northwestern was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Northwestern's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.4 points. As for Key West, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.
