Preview: McDowell Titans vs. South Caldwell Spartans

The McDowell Titans will head out on the road to face off against the South Caldwell Spartans at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McDowell will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

On Friday, McDowell beat Burns 49-42. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Burns is ranked 460th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rylan Parkins was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was David Olivo, who scored ten points.

Meanwhile, even though West Caldwell scored an imposing 80 points on Thursday, South Caldwell still came out on top. South Caldwell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 82-80 victory over West Caldwell.

McDowell's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for South Caldwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

McDowell was able to grind out a solid win over South Caldwell in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 51-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for McDowell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
