Softball Recap: Baker Triumphs

Baker was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Ponce De Leon Pirates 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Gators have posted since April 23, 2024.

The result came thanks to Abigail Griffin's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Baker's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emily Whiddon, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Addalyn St. John also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Baker's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Ponce De Leon, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Coming up, Baker will head out to take on Pensacola Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Baker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Ponce De Leon, they will welcome Kinston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kinston's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Ponce De Leon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
