Basketball Recap: Decatur Community Finds Playoff Glory Versus Lakeside

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Decatur Community had no problem doing just that on Monday. They blew past the Lakeside Knights 76-27. The Red Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Decatur Community to victory were Brylee Minnick and Maria Rodriguez. Minnick went 9-for-19 on her way to 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Rodriguez shot 57% from the field to rack up 19 points and six steals. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of Decatur Community's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 6-9 when she doesn't). Michaela Wasson was another key player, putting up 12 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Decatur Community was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Decatur Community's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Lakeside, they dropped their record down to 4-18 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Decatur Community didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-52 loss against Rawlins County on the 1st. Lakeside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
