Baseball Recap: Winston Academy Has No Trouble Against Carroll Academy

Winston Academy's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Carroll Academy Rebels as they made off with an 8-2 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Holder Tidwell was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reed Yates, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Winston Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

Winston Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Carroll Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Winston Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rebels: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
