Softball Recap: Crown Point Takes Down Carroll in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Crown Point rose to the challenge on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Carroll Chargers a 3-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine contests in a row.

Paige Liezert looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nevaeh Rangel was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Scarlette Tegtman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Crown Point's victory bumped their record up to 29-4. As for Carroll, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 23-6-1.

Looking ahead, Crown Point will take on Penn at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 1.8, the Kingsmen 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
