Basketball Recap: Shawnee Takes a Loss

After flying high against Guthrie last Tuesday, Shawnee came back down to earth. The Shawnee Wolves were outmatched by the Herriman Mustangs and fell 75-34. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 143rd in Oklahoma, while the Mustangs are ranked fourth in Utah).

It was another big night for Cale Barclay, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards for Herriman. That's the most boards Barclay has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jj Tomsick, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Shawnee's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Herriman, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Booker T. Washington at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Herriman will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
