Football Game Preview: Havelock Rams vs. Swansboro Pirates

Havelock is a perfect 6-0 against Swansboro since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rams will take on the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Swansboro took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Havelock, who comes in off a win.

While Havelock's win against Dixon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams slipped by the Bulldogs 29-28 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Jayden Howard was his usual excellent self, rushing for 142 yards and three scores on only eight carries. Havelock is 3-1 when Howard posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 0-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Swansboro was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The game between the Pirates and Dixon didn't end well, with the Pirates falling 46-30.

Havelock will need to focus on slowing down Carmello Beasley, one of several Swansboro players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 69 yards and one TD on only five carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Kevin Till, who threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes.

Havelock's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Swansboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything came up roses for Havelock against Swansboro in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as the squad secured a 68-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
