Recap: Desert Vista Thunder vs. Mountain Pointe Pride
The Desert Vista Thunder lost against the Mountain Pointe Pride back in September of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Desert Vista took a 21-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Pointe. Desert Vista has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed ten in total. All those points came courtesy of Caden Leonard: he added nine points with three field goals, and another on an extra-point kick.
A'Lysha "Zeke" Rodriguez was on fire for Mountain Pointe: he rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. Another player making a difference was Christian Clark, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Desert Vista's defeat was their fifth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.8 points per game. As for Mountain Pointe, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Desert Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mountain Pointe will head out on the road to face off against Perry at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Perry is ranked 14th, while Mountain Pointe is ranked 34th).
