Baseball Game Preview: Marcellus Mustangs vs. Chittenango Bears

The Marcellus Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Chittenango Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marcellus will be strutting in after a victory while Chittenango will be coming in after a defeat.

Marcellus came out on top against Solvay on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bearcats 8-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Gavin Foy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Marcellus is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise. Foy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Tyler Mattison was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Waterman, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Solvay hit Chittenango with a four-run fourth inning last Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bears took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bearcats. The Bears have struggled against the Bearcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Chittenango saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Brownson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Marcellus' victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Chittenango, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Marcellus suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Chittenango in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
