Basketball Recap: Carlos Risueno's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Standing Bear over Waverly

On Friday, the Standing Bear Grizzlies came up short against the Waverly Vikings and fell 60-50. The Grizzlies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Standing Bear lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Carlos Risueno, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. Coen Lambie was another key player, going 6 for 14 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Standing Bear was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Waverly got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Heffelfinger out in front who went 5 of 12 en route to 18 points and seven boards. Crew Verkamp also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Standing Bear's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Waverly, with the victory, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-13.

Standing Bear wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-58 win against Glenwood on the 31st. As for Waverly, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-43 defeat against Elkhorn North on the 31st.
