Basketball Recap: Drayke Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gretna East over Elkhorn North

Gretna East lost against Elkhorn North back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gretna East Griffins took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elkhorn North. While losing is never fun, the Griffins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Elkhorn North are ranked fifth).

Gretna East's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drayke Brown, who went 5 for 8 en route to 12 points. Drew Rhoades was another key player, putting up six points.

This is the second loss in a row for Gretna East and nudges their season record down to 7-5. As for Elkhorn North, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Gretna East will venture away from home to take on Grand Island at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Grand Island will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Gretna East surely won't give up without a fight. As for Elkhorn North, they will be playing at home against Elkhorn at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Elkhorn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
