Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Dores vs. Menlo School Knights

The Monterey Dores will face off against the Menlo School Knights on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Monterey comes in on three and Menlo School on eight.

Monterey is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Harbor.

Luke Miramontes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Monterey's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-2 (and 8-15 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Monterey's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gino Grammatico, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Grammatico has posted since back in May of 2024. Evan Takehara was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Menlo School sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Piedmont Hills on Tuesday.

Liam Widner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Widner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Zach Roeder was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Monterey pushed their record up to 12-17 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Menlo School, their win bumped their record up to 20-8.
