Softball Game Preview: Goldsboro Cougars vs. Eastern Wayne Warriors

The Goldsboro Cougars will head out to challenge the Eastern Wayne Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Goldsboro will be strutting in after a win while Eastern Wayne will be coming in after a defeat.

Goldsboro made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Southern Wayne, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Goldsboro put the hurt on Southern Wayne with a sharp 16-1 victory on Monday. Considering the Cougars have won three matches by more than 14 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, while it was Eastern Wayne who put the first points on the board on Thursday, it was North Johnston who put up more. Eastern Wayne fell just short of North Johnston by a score of 4-3.

Mallory Reed put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Arianna Harvey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Lee, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Eastern Wayne's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2. As for Goldsboro, they moved to 3-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Goldsboro couldn't quite finish off Eastern Wayne in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can Goldsboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
