Chicago Mt. Carmel is 2-8 against St. Laurence since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Caravan will host the Vikings at 4:30 p.m.
Chicago Mt. Carmel fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Providence Catholic on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Celtics by a score of 7-6.
Kolin Adams put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Matt Murphy was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April.
Back at the plate, Haiden Lajcin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Tj McQuillan was another key player, going 3-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Laurence came tearing into Tuesday's game with 17 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Celtics.
St. Laurence's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.
Chicago Mt. Carmel might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from St. Laurence when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Caravan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
