Softball Recap: Glenwood Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Glenwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Monticello Sages on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Titans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Irie Lohrenz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryleigh Kiel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Gilmore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Glenwood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello struck out seven times.

Glenwood's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Monticello, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.

Glenwood and Monticello should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Titans (ranked tenth) will meet Jacksonville (ranked 306th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Monticello will square off against Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (36 vs. 433).
