Baseball Recap: Westbury Takes a Loss

Westbury extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-12-1 in the process. They came up short against the Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos, falling 13-0. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rhinos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

As for Carnegie Vanguard, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-6 record. The result was nothing new for the Rhinos, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Carnegie Vanguard's part, Teddy Herce was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Herce has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Carnegie Vanguard: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Grant Go was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Carnegie Vanguard is undefeated when Go posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Cruz Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Carnegie Vanguard beat Westbury by a score of 5-1 on Saturday.
