Baseball Recap: Olton Comes Up Short

Olton extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 5-12-1. They came up short against the Sudan Hornets, falling 9-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Tuesday.

As for Sudan, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

For Sudan's part, Caleb Groetken made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Groetken has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Haden Provence was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Sudan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Miles Ledbetter, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Olton will take on Hale Center at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sudan, they will face off against New Deal at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last 11 contests.
