Football Recap: Erick Castillo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Momence over Salt Fork

After flying high against Iroquois West last Friday, Momence came back down to earth. The Momence Athletics fell just short of the Salt Fork Storm by a score of 16-14 on Friday. The Momence Athletics were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Storm apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Several Momence Athletics players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Erick Castillo, who rushed for 91 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 162 yards and one touchdown. Castillo also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Phyllip Draine was another key back, rushing for 85 yards on only six carries.

Momence's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Salt Fork, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Momence is set to face off against their familiar foe Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Salt Fork will take on rival Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
