Baseball Game Preview: Florida Christian Patriots vs. Monsignor Pace Spartans

The Florida Christian Patriots are taking a road trip to face off against the Monsignor Pace Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Florida Christian will be strutting in after a win while Monsignor Pace will be coming in after a defeat.

Florida Christian took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Coral Reef, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Florida Christian narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Coral Reef 4-2. While the Patriots didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Florida Christian got a great performance from Sebastian Blanco as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Blanco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Florida Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowen Plasencia, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Monsignor Pace didn't have quite enough to beat NSU University on Thursday and fell 5-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Florida Christian's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Monsignor Pace, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Florida Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monsignor Pace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
