Baseball Recap: North Tonawanda Takes a Loss

North Tonawanda had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it seven. They lost 23-0 to the Niagara Falls Wolverines. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Lumberjacks were not able to get on the board.

As for Niagara Falls, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

For Niagara Falls' part, Johnathan Touma made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Touma a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Anthony Littere was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 5-for-6. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Ligammari, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

While North Tonawanda had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
