Football Recap: Northwest Cabarrus' Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

After a string of five wins, Northwest Cabarrus's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the West Rowan Falcons by a score of 23-21. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Northwest Cabarrus' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Irwin, who threw for 290 yards and one TD.

West Rowan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brant Graham out in front who threw for 237 yards while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. What's more, Graham racked up 16 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August. West Rowan's leading receiver Brennon Stevenson was Graham's top target yet again, picking up 185 receiving yards.

Northwest Cabarrus' defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for West Rowan, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Northwest Cabarrus will head out to face off against Jay M. Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games. As for West Rowan, they will be playing at home against Salisbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
