Recap: South Eugene Axe vs. Pacifica Christian/Orange County Tritons
The South Eugene Axe's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 79-65 to Pacifica Christian/Orange County. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Axe players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trey Saunders, who scored 25 points. The game was Saunders' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Calvin Yoder, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Leading Pacifica Christian/Orange County to victory were EJ Spillman and Alex Stewart. Spillman scored 26 points along with seven rebounds, while Stewart dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Reynolds, who scored ten points.
South Eugene's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Pacifica Christian/Orange County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
South Eugene won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rogers at 2:30 p.m. on December 16th. The timing is sure in Rogers' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while South Eugene has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. Pacifica Christian/Orange County is on the road again on Saturday and play against St. George's (Vancouver, British Columbia) at 4:10 p.m. on December 16th.
