Basketball Game Preview: Sandy Valley Cardinals vs. Claymont Mustangs

The Sandy Valley Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Claymont Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Sandy Valley is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 59 points last Saturday, they were much more limited against Hiland on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Hawks and fell 71-23. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 491st, while the Hawks are ranked 74th).

Meanwhile, Claymont didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against St. Clairsville on Monday, but they still walked away with a 38-33 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Claymont's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Sandy Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Everything went Sandy Valley's way against Claymont when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as Sandy Valley made off with a 55-32 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sandy Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
