Basketball Recap: Blue Ridge Early College Comes Up Short

Blue Ridge Early College was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 55-19 loss at the hands of the Hayesville Yellowjackets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-27 last Saturday.

Despite the defeat, Blue Ridge Early College saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooklyn Kenney went 7 of 17 on her way to 14 points and six steals. That was a full 73.7% of Blue Ridge Early College's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Breanna Abrams went supernova for Hayesville, going 6 for 11 en route to 14 points and five steals. Abrams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mallory Peck, who earned nine points.

Blue Ridge Early College's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Hayesville, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Blue Ridge Early College didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 88-25 defeat against Hiwassee Dam on the 31st. Hayesville has also already played their next contest, a 67-24 loss against Cherokee on the 31st.
