Softball Recap: Kirtland Central Broncos vs. Sandia Matadors
Kirtland Central easily dispatched Newcomb last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Kirtland Central fell just short of the Sandia Matadors by a score of 14-12 on Thursday.
Amilia Gomez and Isabella Hurtado did some serious damage despite the final result: Gomez scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3, while Hurtado scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Hurtado has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanisha Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Even though they lost, Kirtland Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sandia only posted an OBP of .441.
Kirtland Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Sandia, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.
