Baseball Recap: Hampshire Beats Keyser for Their Third Straight Victory

Hampshire took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Keyser, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans skirted past the Golden Tornado 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 4, 2024.

Ethan VanMeter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Channing Wilt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brent Evans also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The win was the third in a row for Hampshire, bringing their record up to 4-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Keyser, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Hampshire will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Frankfort at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Keyser, they are taking a road trip to face off against Mountain Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
