On Tuesday, Purchase Line got the win against Conemaugh Township by a conclusive 17-2.
Kaitlyn Houser and Rylee Mahaffey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Houser tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mahaffey struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Houser a new career-low in walks (two). At bat, Houser scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Mahaffey scored a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Bella Cessna was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Rylee Adams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Purchase Line always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conemaugh Township only posted an OBP of .368.
Meanwhile, Cambria Heights came up short against River Valley on Tuesday, falling 14-6. The loss put an end to the Highlanders' undefeated start to the season.
Gina Lane was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Margaret Elias, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Purchase Line's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Cambria Heights, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Cambria Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Purchase Line has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Cambria Heights, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Purchase Line's sizable advantage in that area, Cambria Heights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Purchase Line suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Cambria Heights in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Purchase Line avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
