Baseball Game Preview: Wyoming Valley West Spartans vs. Dallas Mountaineers

Wyoming Valley West is 2-8 against Dallas since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Spartans will square off against the Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Wyoming Valley West's last matchup with Hazleton Area could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Wednesday. The Spartans came up short against the Cougars, falling 13-3.

Jake Dubaskas was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Dallas nor Pittston made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mountaineers fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2.

Dallas also got a good showing from Dylan Chapman, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chapman has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dominick Zangardi made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Dallas' defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Wyoming Valley West, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Wyoming Valley West suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Dallas when the teams last played back in April. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
