Softball Recap: Sparta Triumphs

Sparta's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Luther Knights. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 11-10 win the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Annika Kichhoff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Sparta let Morgan Revels and Izzy Mickelson run wild. Revels went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Mickelson went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double was Mickelson's first of the season.

Sparta's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Luther, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will take on La Crosse Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Luther, they will face off against Viroqua at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blackhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
