Football Recap: Izzy Murray's Menacing Defense Leads Ponte Vedra over Bartram Trail

On Monday, the Ponte Vedra Sharks earned an 18-7 win over the Bartram Trail Bears. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Bears are ranked 158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ponte Vedra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Izzy Murray, Taylor Burke, Maddy McDermott, and Peyton Gruver picked up one apiece. McDermott is also crushing it when it comes to sacks: she's posted at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Murray got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Ponte Vedra and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.5 points on average over those games. As for Bartram Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Ponte Vedra has already played their next contest, a 26-0 win against First Coast on the 4th. As for Bartram Trail, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-0 victory against Menendez on the 5th.
