Mason City had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Des Moines East Scarlets with a sharp 20-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Riverhawks, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Mason City's victory bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Des Moines East, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-17.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mason City beat the Scarlets by a score of 6-0 later that day.
