Softball Recap: Archbishop Murphy Wildcats vs. Meadowdale Mavericks
Archbishop Murphy had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 12-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Meadowdale Mavericks, falling 19-6. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 17-7.
Carly Madhavan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Amaya Hernandez was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one double.
As for Meadowdale, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
On Meadowdale's side, Olivia Feistel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Feistel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Samantha Martens was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Zoe De Mello also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
